Why screens tire the eyes
We blink far less when concentrating on screens, so the tear film dries out. Constant near focus also fatigues the eye’s focusing muscles, and glare adds to the strain.
Simple, effective habits
- 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look ~20 feet away for 20 seconds
- Blink consciously and use lubricating drops if needed
- Position the screen slightly below eye level, reduce glare, and keep good lighting
- Have an up-to-date prescription — uncorrected error worsens strain

Balancing screen time with outdoor time supports healthy eye development and may help limit short-sightedness.
