LASIK & laser vision correction in Ahmedabad

Medically reviewed by Dr. Jayadatt D. Patel — MBBS, MS (Ophthalmology), FCRS · Last reviewed June 2026

LASIK is a laser vision-correction procedure that reshapes the cornea to reduce or remove your dependence on glasses and contact lenses. For the right candidate it can be life-changing – but it is not right for everyone, and the safest result starts with a careful, honest assessment. Vision correction at Balaji Horizon Eye Hospital is led by a fellowship-trained refractive surgeon.

Who is a good candidate

  • Aged 18 or over, with a stable prescription for around a year
  • Healthy eyes with no significant dryness or surface disease
  • Adequate corneal thickness and a regular corneal shape
  • Realistic expectations about the outcome

Who may not be suitable

Laser correction may be unsuitable during pregnancy, with conditions such as keratoconus, with thin corneas, or with certain eye diseases. In these cases, lens-based refractive options may be safer – which is exactly what the assessment is designed to determine.

How we assess your suitability

A thorough work-up is essential before any laser procedure. We measure your prescription and its stability, map the cornea with topography, assess corneal thickness, and check your tear film and eye health using advanced anterior-segment imaging, including Heidelberg ANTERION. Only then can we recommend safely.

What to expect

  • A detailed eligibility assessment before anything is decided
  • A quick, day-care laser procedure under numbing drops
  • Mild discomfort and watering for a short while afterwards
  • Many people see well within a day or two

Benefits

  • Reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses
  • A procedure matched to your specific eyes
  • Decisions guided by precise corneal imaging

Risks and honest expectations

LASIK has a strong safety record in carefully selected patients, but like any procedure it has risks – temporary dry eye, night-time glare or halos, and the small possibility of under- or over-correction. Reading glasses are still commonly needed with age. We explain the realistic benefits and limitations for your eyes, and will tell you honestly if LASIK is not advisable.

Recovery and follow-up

Most people resume normal activities within a day or two, following the eye-drop schedule and precautions we provide. We review you to confirm healing and your visual outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Is LASIK painful?

No – the eye is numbed with drops, so the procedure is not painful. Mild discomfort and watering for a short while afterwards is normal.

How soon will I see clearly?

Many people notice clear vision within a day or two, though it continues to settle over the following weeks.

Will I ever need glasses again?

LASIK corrects your current prescription but does not stop the natural changes of ageing, so reading glasses are still commonly needed later in life.

Laser vision correction options — explained

"Laser vision correction" is a family of procedures. The right one depends on your prescription, corneal thickness and eye health — which we assess carefully before advising you.

  • LASIK — a thin corneal flap is created and the cornea gently reshaped; quick recovery for suitable prescriptions.
  • PRK — surface laser treatment without a flap; useful for thinner corneas.
  • Topography-guided treatment (e.g. Contoura Vision) — laser correction guided by a detailed map of your cornea, where indicated.
  • SMILE — a flapless, small-incision technique offered at some centres.
  • ICL — an implantable lens for high prescriptions or thin corneas where laser is not ideal.

Not sure which suits you? A refractive assessment is the only way to know — book an assessment or read about ICL.
